Kate Ibeanusi – Founder/ Board Secretary Kate Ijeoma Ibeanusi is the Founder and current Board Secretary of Initiative for Sustaining Family Unity - IforSFU. The vision to set up a family service oriented organisation was conceived in the late 90’s following series of personal experiences that pointed to the need for a support system to families going through challenges and transition. Kate has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She has an MA in African Studies with specialty in Applied Anthropology from the same University. She obtained a Diploma in Development Leadership from the Coady International Institute- St Francis Xavier University, NS Canada and a Certificate in Social Sector Management with emphasis on Transformational Leadership from the Enterprise Development Centre of the Pan African University, Lagos. Since 2008, Kate has worked in the field of advocating for the rights of women, girls and children in Nigeria. She has provided a wide range of services to abused women and young girls in need of access to justice, medical care and rehabilitation while working with Project Alert on Violence Against Women. In recognition of her efforts at addressing issues of Gender-Based Violence with specific interest on women, girls and children, she was honoured with the Katherine Fleming International Development Award in 2014 at the Coady Institute. She worked with Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action- PRAWA and rose to the position of Assistant Director, Institutional Support to pay more attention to personal development and running the organisation. She has been exposed to trainings in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) as well as project management. She began her work life as a HSE and Social Impact Assessment (SIA) personnel for the oil and gas industry. Kate is a Junior Fellow of the International Peace Institute New York and a current Fellow on Peace and Security for African Women at the African Leadership Centre/Kings College.
